Critically acclaimed and incredibly emotional Brit indie poppers The xx stopped by Local 506 on Monday. Dive was around to snap a few pictures.

The White Stripes, De Stijl: In honor of the new rough and ready live CD/DVD Under Great White Northern Lights, which is making waves all over the place, Dive
suggests a spin through this raucous early career triumph. With plenty of gritty garage rock blues to go along with a smattering of lo-fi pop gems, this 2000 album is where the Stripes solidified a sound all their own.
Movie from the Vaults
“Coffee and Cigarettes”: Sticking with the Stripes theme, this 2003 Jim Jarmusch film features the duo. A series of conversations over java and cylindrical tobacco, it balances wry social commentary with ridiculous events and banter. Highlights include Jack White showing off his Tesla coil to Meg and Bill Murray discussing the effects of caffeine with GZA and RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan.

Nightlight | The duo that comprises Mandolin Orange might seem demure at first glance, but take a listen to the couple’s intimate, occasionally raucous brand of bluegrass/folk and all assumptions are dispelled. Also on tap will be the movingly oddball bluegrass antics of Humble Tripe. Clawform also plays. 10:30 p.m., $5 - Friday, March 19: Fin Fang Foom
Local 506 | This isn’t the first time that Fin Fang Foom has showed up on our weekly round-up, and it’s for good reason. Straining melodies to the very end of their tensile strength, the Chapel Hill band makes rock music that explodes with powerful post-modern angst. The Mercury Program and Antarctic also play. 10 p.m., $8 - Pros And Cons
Nightlight | With members of polished Chapel Hill pop-rock outfit Transportation, Pros And Cons makes a similarly light, bouncy sound. Breezy with a tendency towards ‘70s-esque love songs, they put on a fun show. NAPS and Drunk Tigers also play. 10 p.m. - Sunday, March 21: Deerhunter
Cat’s Cradle | Bradford Cox’s punk-rock wail alongside the band’s fractured dance rhythms makes Deerhunter an oddity in the world of indie music. Difficult to categorize, Deerhunter crafts strange and compelling songs that will surely get feet moving at the Cat’s Cradle. Free Electric State and Schooner open. 9 p.m., $16 - Wednesday, March 24: Mount Weather
Nightlight | If you’re bummed out about this week’s Rosebuds show getting canceled, Dive has a partial remedy for you. Blissfully fuzzy pop-rock band Mount Weather, the scheduled opener for that show, will play Nightlight Wednesday. And that’s not the only goody this one has to offer. Also on hand will be expressively tuneful Chapel Hill indie rock duo Veelee. Mon Khmer and Savoir Adore also play. 9 p.m., $6
